Introduction
For our research about the first nations project our group is studying a nation in the plains area the three tribes are called Blackfoot, bloods, peigan. The Blackfoot tribes are a very strong and powerful people with creative ways of living.
Language
Blackfoot or siksika is an Algonquian language spoken by many people in South America and northern Montana. The two domain dialects are pikanii and siksika Blackfoot. Many children are still learning Blackfoot, but the language is going through a linguistic (meaning it is changing) shift, with “old Blackfoot” being spoken by older generations and “new Blackfoot “ being spoken by the younger ones.

Blackfoot nations today actually consist of four district Blackfoot nations, who share historical and cultural back ground but have separate leadership: the siksika (whose name literally translates to Blackfoot, the akallnawa nation also called kainai or bloods, the pikanii or pregan and the Blackfeet nation. The first three live in Alberta and the forth lives in Montana. The Blackfoot were nomadic plains hunters, traditional enemies of the Shoshone and nezperce . There are about 14’000 Blackfoot Indians today all told.
